Tata Steel Limited has been allotted land at Gopalpur in Ganjam district for development of industrial economic zone. SPARC assisted in carrying out the forest & environmental study through preparation of the geo-referenced forest land map of the diverted forest land and auxiliary maps and reports. The process involved collection of the revenue cadastral maps for the industrial area, collection of record of right document for the concerned villages, consultation with the respective forest division offices for approval of the forest land involved within the mine lease area and preparation of the forest land schedule. GIS based processing of the input documents were carried out through grid correction/ digitization/ mosaicking of the revenue maps and the forest land schedule and linking the data sets through the key field to generate the spatial land database for the forest land. High Resolution Satellite Image (Panchromatic + Multispectral) was procured for the SEZ area and processed to obtain the merged imagery to facilitate delineation of the ground features as well as the vegetation type and density in the proposed area. The image interpretation study was conducted to current land use pattern to obtain current status of the land. All these geo-spatial data sets were organized in thematic data layers along with the administrative base map layers and integrated in a GIS application to facilitate visualization of the project boundary, villages involved, plots involved within the SEZ area, plot information related to each plots such as plot no, land type, ownership details etc. The application provides the GIS tool bar with common GIS functionalities as well as query and analysis through provision of a query builder.

- Generation of Land Acquisition/ Alienation maps and documents and monitoring of the land acquisition process
- Decision support system for formulation of schemes and establishment/ allotment of land for industrial units
